What I do
A good patch disappears once it’s painted. That takes the right backing, careful setting in thin coats and patient sanding. A blob of filler won’t do it.
For ceilings with water damage, I cut back to sound plasterboard, replace the damaged section and finish it flush. Decorative bulkheads are a great way to hide pipes or ducts, or to frame a kitchen or living area with lighting.
- Wall holes and dents. Door-handle holes, removed fixtures and accidental knocks.
- Cracks and cornices. Cracked joints and loose cornice reset and refinished.
- Ceiling repairs. Water-damaged or sagging sections cut out and replaced.
- Decorative bulkheads. Bulkheads framed and sheeted to hide services or add a feature.
- Ready for paint. Sanded smooth and primed, or painted to finish on request.

Will the patch show?
Not when it’s done properly. It’s set in thin coats, sanded smooth and primed, so it disappears once painted.
My ceiling has a water stain. Is that a problem?
Find and fix the leak first. Then I check whether the plasterboard is still sound. A stain sometimes just needs sealing, while soft or sagging board needs replacing.
My ceiling is sagging. What should I do?
Keep people clear of the area and get it looked at soon. Sagging plasterboard can come down without warning. I can inspect it and refix or replace the section.
